About our Website

Welcome to the website for the Albert Square Garden in London SW8, United Kingdom. This website will allow these wishing access to the Square to apply on-line. It also allows existing users - whether resident in Albert Square itself or non-resident - to renew their annual subscriptions.

The website will also provide information about forthcoming events in the Square and other news of interest, as well as some history of the Square and its neighbourhood. We welcome use of the Albert Square Garden by the local community and we also welcome suggestions for improvements to the Square (and this website), as well as other comments. This website allows this to be done online.

About Us

The Albert Square garden was created when the Square was built in 1846-49. It is part of the Grade 2* listed Square and of the conservation area for this historic part of south London. English Heritage produced a history of the Square in 2001.

The Albert Square garden itself is private, owned by a trust for the benefit of the residents of the 37 houses surrounding the Square (freeholders, long-term leaseholders and shorter term tenants). It is managed by a committee on behalf of the Trustees. This management committee is also responsible for this website.

In addition, the management committee allows local residents access to the Square, at its discretion, on payment of an annual charge (in return the user obtains an electronic key fob that allows access to the Square). Local residents can apply for such a key fob on this website.
